Nayagarh: Hundreds of women of Jemadeipur panchayat today brought joined in a rally and covered the headquarter town to protest the government decision to open liquor shops in the panchayat.

The women protesters carrying banners and placards complained that social life in at least six villages under the panchayat would be completely disturbed if the government gave the permission to open liquor shops. The women feared that even economic condition of the villages would be adversely affected by the liquor shops. Later, the demonstrators gave a memorandum to the district collector and demanded that at no cost should the shops be opened in the panchayat.
