Kalahandi: Women of Dangariguda village under Koksara block of the district took to streets on Tuesday to protest acute drinking water crisis in their area.

Expressing dissatisfaction towards the apathy of the authorities in solving the long-standing issue of water scarcity, hundreds of women staged a protest and blocked the NH-26 with water-pots and buckets.

Vehicular movement on Bhawanipatna-Jeypore road came to standstill as women protesters refused to call off the strike for quite some time.

The protesters alleged that despite regular complaints, the district authorities have turned a deaf ear to the water crisis gripping the area since long.

"We have been pleading the government to resolve the water crisis in our region, but so far our demands have not been given adequate importance, so we decided to stage dharna. If our demands are not fulfilled soon, we will intensify our agitation," said a protester.
