Bolangir: Over hundred women today gheraoed the Bongomunda police station here, demanding immediate closure of liquor outlets in and around the Tetelpada village under Bongomunda Tehsil of the district.

Sloganeering against the illegal sale of liquor in the village, the agitating women staged protest in front of the Bongomunda police station.

The protestors alleged that because of the presence of liquor vends in the area, the men folks of the village have become regular customers which subsequently leads to quarrels at their houses.

“There are three to four liquor outlets in the village. We cannot move freely in the village due to the liquor vends, so we want all the outlets to get closed. The male members of the family come home drunk every evening and often fight with us at home,” said an agitating woman

Another woman of Tetelpada alleged, “Despite repeated police complaints, the officials did not take any steps. Therefore, we decided to stage demonstration today.”

The women protestors have also threatened to intensify their protest if the liquor shops are not shut down at the earliest, sources said.
