Woman’s half-charred body found in house; foul play suspected

Bhubaneswar: The half-charred body of a woman was recovered under mysterious circumstances from her house at Saheed Nagar today. The deceased has been identified as Chitralekha Patra.

As per reports, Chitralekha’s husband Niranjan Patra spotted her body after he returned home from morning walk and informed police.

Though it is still not clear whether Chitralakha committed suicide or was murdered, police have detained Niranjan for further questioning. Sources said, Chitralekha’s body carried injury marks on head and hand, sources said.

Sources said the couple had been staying at an outhouse on the premises of a government quarter at Saheed Nagar area for past 10 years. Though relatives of the deceased ruled out any family dispute, neighbours claimed that couple had entered into a quarrel last night.

“As far as I know, there was no dispute between the couple,” said Rajan Kumar Patra, brother-in-law of deceased.

Sources said the couple had a tiff with the house owner a few days back.

“Though it was amicably decided that the couple would leave the house within three months, they were yet to vacate it. But despite this, I had no issues with them,” said owner of the house, Tapan Kumar Malla.
