Woman poisons self, two daughters after losing son, hospitalised

Jajpur: A grief-stricken woman who recently lost her son attempted suicide by poisoning herself and her two daughters at Pada Sahi under Binjharpur area in Jajpur district. All three -Ketki Jena and her daughters, Mamta and Gurubari have been rushed to Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).

As per reports, Ketki's son Mantu working in a plywood factory in Kerala, died due to some disease on Tuesday. Soon after the news yesterday, the trio tried to end their lives by jumping into a pond. However some villagers rescued them.

Today morning, Ketaki once again poisoned her two daughters, Mamta and Gurubari and later consumed the same. Locals rushed the trio to the Jajpur DHH. Their condition is stated to be stable now, said hospital sources.

"Ketki's husband is mentally-disabled and Mantu was the sole earning member in the family. This should have forced the family to take the extreme step," a local said.
