Balasore: Tension prevailed at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) here today after a woman patient died due to alleged medical negligence.

As per sources, the deceased identified as Santilata Sahu of Remuna area was admitted to the DHH on Thursday.

Her family members informed that they called upon the doctor immediately after her condition worsened this morning. However, neither the doctor arrived for a check up nor she (the patient) was given proper treatment at the hospital and Santilata breathed her last.

Alleging negligence on part of the doctors and staff of the DHH, Santilata's family members later scuffled with the staff who arrived at the spot to control the situation.

The medical authorities, however, are yet to respond to the allegations of negligence levelled by Santilata's family.

A similar incident had happened a few days back at Pipili in Puri district, when one Gajendra Muduli, a resident of Nagpur area in Gop block suffering from kidney, liver and heart ailments, died due to unavailability of doctors at the Government Hospital.

Muduli's family rued that after requesting for hours, a doctor finally reached the hospital and confirmed his death.
