Malkangiri: A hardcore woman Maoist carrying a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh on her head surrendered before Malkangiri police in the district today.

According to sources, the Maoist identified as Ide Maddi laid down arms before Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena.

Maddi said she left the Maoist group as she was harassed and tortured.

Reportedly Maddi had joined the CPI (Maoist) organisation in 2014 and was an active member of the Padia and Kalimela Dalam. She was in the most-wanted list of the police and involved in cases of attacking police personnel and killing them.

Meanwhile, Malkangiri police informed that monetary assistance will be provided to help her return to main stream.

“A CPI (Maoist) cadre from Silakota village of Padia area surrendered before the Malkangiri police today who was identified as ‘Jiwani’ in the organisation. She had joined the Maoist organisation in 2014 and was carrying a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh on her head,” Meena said.

He further informed, “Financial assistance will be provided for her rehabilitation. If she wants to undergo vocational trainings also, expenses will be borne by the government.”

Meanwhile, combing and anti-insurgency operations have been intensified in naxal-dominated districts and in the bordering areas of Odisha as Maoists are observing PLGA (Peoples Liberation Guerrilla Army) week. Reportedly the red rebels will observe the PLGA week till December 8.
