Woman Maoist deputy commander surrenders

Paralakhemundi: A woman deputy commander of banned CPI(Maoist) surrendered before the police in Gajapati district on Monday.

The 20 year-old Arati Patra alias Rita is a deputy commander in CPI(Maoist) and was involved in several cases including attacks on police personnel and security forces, the police said.

Gajapati Superintendent of Police Sarthak Sarangi said Arati had accused the leaders of physically and mentally torturing her since she joined the banned outfit in 2007.

She had claimed that she had to quit also because she was fed up with with the activities of the Maoists and disillusioned as they had deviated from their ideology, he added.
