Nayagarh: Superstition continues to rule the roost in Odisha with three reported cases of witchcraft practices claiming life of one person and ostracizing a couple in different incidents.

A report of gross superstition has come from Bangiriposhi block under Mayurbhanj district where a couple was ostracized from their own village by their relatives over suspicion of practicing sorcery.

The couple was forced to live under a tree in the jungle where the wife gave birth to a baby boy just 5 days back. The baby and her mother were taken to hospital after which the matter came to fore.

Similarly, a woman from Gujumapadar village under Papadahandi police limits in Nabarangpur district was allegedly beaten to death by two men of the same village over allegations of practicing witchcraft.

As per reports, Danu Santa and Radha Santa from Gujumapadar village beat one Tulabati Santa to death with wooden logs suspecting her of practicing sorcery.

Similarly, a man from Jashodapur village in Ranpur of Nayagarh district was bitten by a snake on Tuesday but his family members allegedly delayed in taking him to hospital and instead chose to perform witchcraft on him through a local quack to heal him.
