Woman dies, husband critical in snakebite in Puri

In a shocking incident, a woman died while her husband became critical after the couple was bitten by a venomous snake while they were asleep inside their house at Badajhada village under Krushnaprasad block in Puri district on late Thursday night.

As per reports, both were rushed to the Krushnaprasad Community Health Centre by the family members. As their condition worsened, they were later shifted to Berhampur Hospital.

Unfortunately, the wife, Pramila Jena, succumbed to the snakebite. Her husband, Rabindra Jena, remains in critical condition and is currently undergoing treatment.

Last month, a young student lost his life after being subjected to traditional healing instead of timely medical treatment for a snakebite in Gajapati district.

The boy was bitten by a venomous snake late while he was asleep. Instead of rushing him to a hospital, his family members first took him to a nearby village to seek treatment from a local herbal healer. However, when his condition deteriorated, he was later shifted to R. Udayagiri Hospital.

Doctors there referred him to the Gajapati District Headquarters Hospital at Paralakhemundi as his condition worsened further. Tragically, he passed away on the way to the medical facility.
