Cuttack: Tension erupted at a private nursing home in Bajrakabati area in Cuttack after a woman patient undergoing treatment at the hospital died due to alleged medical negligence.

Soon after the incident, family members and relatives of the deceased identified as Subhadra Mohanty, of Gangapur village under Kishanagar police limits, vandalised the hospital property and also locked up the gate of the nursing home.

The relatives alleged that the deceased woman died due to negligence by the hospital authorities.

According to sources, the woman was admitted to the nursing home Saturday morning after she consumed poison over some family dispute.

While her family had already spent Rs 1.5 lakh for her treatment, around Rs 80 thousand was still pending, added sources.

The family members further alleged that the hospital authorities stopped providing medicines to her due to non-payment of fees, which subsequently resulted in her death.

Meanwhile, Mohanty’s body was later sent for post-mortem after Mangalabag police reached the spot and pacified the agitating relatives of the deceased.

Later a complaint was lodged by the family members of Mohanty at the Mangalabag police station.

However, the hospital authorities are yet to comment on the issue.
