Woman dies as electric pole falls on her in Bargarh

Bargarh: In a freak mishap, a woman died after an utility pole of electricity department fell on her head near Gandhi chhak in Bargarh on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Surubali Biswal of Katapali area under Town police limits.

The incident occurred when the electric pole fell during a relocation operation. The utility pole fell on Biswal while was travelling on a motorcycle with her son Ranjan and nephew Sachin.

Following the incident, locals staged a road blockade demanding compensation for deceased Biswal's family and medical treatment of Ranjan and Sachin who also sustained critical injuries in the mishap.

"The woman was travelling on a motorcycle and the mishap occured when shifting process of the utility pole was on. Appropriate action will be taken after a detailed probe into the incident," said Bargarh SDPO, Suresh Nayak.

Local residents alleged that the woman lost her life due to negligence on part of the officials of the electricity department while carrying out such relocation of utility pole in the area.

"Senior police officials are conducting an inquiry and we have already apprised the district collector and steps are being taken to provide compensation as per law to the family of the deceased," said ADM, Tapiram Majhi.
