A woman allegedly died following childbirth at the Laxmipur Community Health Centre (CHC) in Odisha’s Koraput district on Tuesday, with her family accusing doctors of medical negligence.
The deceased has been identified as Kanan Mandal, the wife of Prabhanjan Mohanty. According to sources, Kanan was initially admitted to a private clinic in Rayagada after experiencing labour pain, where she delivered a baby girl.
Condition Deteriorated After Delivery
Family members alleged that Kanan’s health deteriorated soon after childbirth. They claimed that the attending doctor at the private clinic shifted her to Laxmipur in Koraput district without informing her husband, who was in Nayagarh at the time and had not yet reached Rayagada.
Before Prabhanjan could arrive, the clinic doctor, identified as Nabakishore Kundu, reportedly admitted Kanan to Laxmipur CHC for further treatment. She later died at the health centre.
Allegations and Response
The bereaved family has questioned the decision to shift Kanan to Laxmipur instead of referring her to a higher medical facility in Berhampur or Visakhapatnam for advanced treatment. They have alleged that medical negligence led to her death.

However, the doctor concerned has denied the allegations, stating that there was no negligence in the treatment provided.
