Sonepur: Shantilata would have never imagined the ordeal that she underwent at her in-laws place. The middle-aged woman was subjected to inhuman torture, tied with ropes and sent to her parent’s place along with her two and half year old son for protesting against physical abuse by her in-laws.

The incident took place at Radhiapali village in Sonepur district.

As per reports, the brother-in-law and sister-in-law of the victim used to abuse her physically and mentally for petty issues.

“They used to torture me regularly and used to tell me that they would drive me out of the house,” the victim said.

On Thursday, like any other day, her brother-in-law beat her up mercilessly. Later, he with the help of his friends tied Shantilata and abandoned in a room.

The torture did not end there. The father-in-law accompanied by some other elderly people took her in a van to her parent’s place with her hands and legs tied.

Ironically, no one came to the rescue of the hapless woman and the minor child.

On reaching Shantilata’s parental home under Biramaharajpur police limits, the members discovered that no one was present at home. They waited for some time in front of the house and subsequently the news reached the local police station.

“We saw the woman and two other persons sitting in the vehicle. The woman was lying with hands and legs tied,” a villager said.

Biramaharajpur police personnel reached the spot to rescue the victim. A case was registered against the in-laws of Shantilata. However, the main accused, brother-in-law of the victim managed to give police a slip.

The accused Dineswar Kheti (brother-in-law of Shantilata) is absconding fearing public outburst,” Biramaharajpur OIC Manoj Kumar Swain said.
