Wild jumbo sneaked into zoo captured

Bhubaneswar: The wild tusker, which had strayed into the Elephant Safari area of Nandankanan Zoological Park here on December 31, 2014, was captured by the Forest officials after tranquilizing it on Saturday.

According to zoo officials, the jumbo re-entered into the Safari yesterday morning after going back to the forest two days ago. This time, however, it started attacking the inmates of the Safari, which houses three elephants – Prema, Herra and Basanti.

The authorities then decided to capture it. As many as 30 Forest officials along with six ‘kunkis’ (trained elephants), including Jashoda and Nanda, were deployed in the morning to control the wild pachyderm.
