Baripada: A wild bear, strayed from the Similipal National Park, was on Wednesday stoned to death by the local people at Sanasola village under Dukura forest range, 15 km from here, forest office sources said.

About an eight-year-old male bear which entered the village was chased by the people before it fell into a dry well where it was stoned to death, the sources said.

The villagers also took out nails of the animal.

A case under Wildlife (Protection) Act was registered.
