Sambalpur: Frustrated over Government’s apathetic attitude towards agriculture, farmers of 11 districts of western Odisha including Angul have called for a bandh tomorrow pressing for their 15-point charter of demands.
 
The cultivators have decided for a shutdown tomorrow from 12 noon to 4 pm under the aegis of ‘Pashima Odisha Krushaka Sanghathan Samanwaya Samiti’. The farmers of 10 districts of western Odisha along with Angul will join the bandh demanding Rs 300 per quintal of paddy as minimum support price. This apart, their demands include amendment in insurance policy, formation of a commission for agriculture, pension for the peasants and restriction on micro finance companies.
 
Earlier, farmers of 11 districts staged a sit-in in front of RDC office on October 31 and submitted a memorandum addressed to chief minister. However, the demands presented before the government are yet to be met.
 
On the other hand, Sambalpur collector suspended five officials after setting up of a probe committee which investigated less transportation of paddy by trucks showing proof of more amount. Notably, 13 trucks allegedly transported less amount of paddy showing heavy weight on November 26.
