Western Odisha farmers oppose KALIA scheme
Bhubaneswar: Criticizing Odisha government’s KALIA scheme, the Western Odisha Krushak Sangathan today demanded bonus for paddy farmers and implementation of the recommendations of the Swaminathan Committee.
According to sources, the association termed the KALIA scheme a gimmick ahead of the elections. It further threatened to intensify farmers’ agitation in the State from February 2019 onwards.
Association leader Lingaraj said “The farmers of Odisha will not accept the KALIA scheme of the State government which is nothing but a gimmick. The effect of the farmers’ agitation will reflect in election results.”
Meanwhile, BJD MLA from Sambalpur Raseswari Panigrahi said that the KALIA scheme will be effective and benefit every section of farmers in the State.
“The farmer families will be provided with Rs 10,000, with or without land ownership. There are other provisions in the scheme and they (farmers) will be granted insurance. So, there is no reason to mislead the farmers. MSP hike is the responsibility of the Centre,” Raseswari Panigrahi said.
