Western Odisha is steadily emerging as a key growth engine for the state, with investment proposals exceeding Rs 52,000 crore and the promise of more than 20,000 jobs announced during the Enterprise Odisha 2026 event held in Rourkela on Wednesday.

The developments underline rising investor confidence in the region and signal a renewed push towards industrial expansion and employment generation.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for industrial projects worth Rs 8,884 crore at the event. Of these, 11 industrial projects with a combined investment of Rs 5,708 crore were inaugurated, generating employment for 4,183 people.

In addition, foundation stones were laid for nine projects involving Rs 3,176 crore, which are expected to create jobs for 2,649 individuals, as reported by Times of India.

During his two-day tour of western Odisha, the Chief Minister unveiled projects involving investments of around Rs 35,000 crore. Earlier, he had also launched projects worth nearly Rs 27,000 crore in Sambalpur.

MoUs And Investment Proposals

The event witnessed the signing of 22 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and the receipt of five major investment proposals. As a result, 22 MoUs worth Rs 43,349 crore, with an employment potential of 18,985 jobs, were signed, while five investment intents worth Rs 8,677 crore proposing 1,442 jobs were received. Overall, these commitments are expected to bring capital investment of around Rs 52,026 crore and generate approximately 20,427 employment opportunities.

Industry Participation

Leading industrial houses and organisations, including Tata Steel, MCL, JSW, Vedanta, Dalmia Cement, SAIL, AM/NS and the Rourkela Chamber of Commerce, participated in the event, reflecting broad-based industry engagement.

Chief Minister’s Remarks

Sharing details of the event on social media, CM Mohan Majhi tweeted, “I participated in the silver jubilee celebrations of Enterprise Odisha 2026 held in Rourkela, where I inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 20 industrial projects worth Rs 8,800 crore. These projects are expected to generate new employment opportunities for around 6,832 youths in the state.”

In another tweet, he said, “Our government is committed to empowering large industries as well as MSMEs and local entrepreneurs to build Odisha as a growth engine of a ‘Viksit Bharat’. By realising the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Purvodaya’ initiative, our core objective is to develop Odisha as one of the world’s best destinations for business, investment and improved quality of life.”

He further added, “Stability in our industrial policy, administrative reforms and the strength of a skilled youth workforce have today given Odisha a distinct identity on the global manufacturing map. By opening new horizons of industrial prosperity, Odisha is moving rapidly on the path of self-reliance. Together, we aim to successfully carry forward this journey towards building a prosperous and empowered Odisha by 2036.”
