Weather Update: Heavy Rain Likely To Lash 5 Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar:  The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar on Monday predicted that heavy rain is likely to lash five districts- Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundergarh and Jajpur in the next 24 hours.

Laxmidhar Mohapatra, Duty Officer at Regional Met office informed that several parts of Odisha received good amount of rainfall in the past 24 hours. As a result, the overall rainfall deficit across the State has now come down to 3%.

“The low pressured formed over Odisha coast two days back now lies centered over Madhya Pradesh and a monsoon trough line from Bikaner extends up to Bay of Bengal via Paradip. Under the impact of a cyclonic circulation, several parts of the State experienced rainfall activity in the past 24 hours,” said Mohapatra.

Mohapatra further informed that heavy rainfall warning has been issued for five districts- Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundergarh and Jajpur in the next 24 hours.

The Met Department further stated that the fishermen have also been warned not to venture into the sea as gusty winds reaching a speed of 40 to 50 kmph will prevail along Odisha coast as the monsoon flow is active.

“The intensity of rainfall will be low in the next two days while the amount of rainfall is likely to increase as a fresh low pressure area is likely to form by August 28,” Mohapatra added.
