Bhubaneswar: With several parts of the Odisha continuing to recover from flood-like situation following heavy rain triggered by cyclone DAYE, the meteorological department issued thunderstorm and lightning alert for as many as six different districts today.

As per the latest forecast of the Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, thunderstorm and lightning accompanied by light to moderate rainfall is likely to occurat one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Bolangir, Sundergarh and Mayurbhanj districts.

The warning has been issued till 8.30 pm today. People in these areas have been cautioned to remain alert in view of the thunderstorm.

The meteorological department has predicted thunderstorm and lightning alert for one or two places over Koraput, Malkanagiri, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Khordha, Cuttack, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal and Sundargarh districts tomorrow and places over Interior Odisha and at a few places over Coastal Odisha on Tuesday.

As per the latest weather information, the cumulative average rainfall of the State from 1st June till 23rd September comes to a surplus of 17.5% over the long term average rainfall, a release from the Special Relief Commissioner’s (SRC) office said.

12 districts received surplus rainfall of more than 19% whereas 18 districts have received normal rainfall (+19% to -19%) during the period from September 1to September 23.
