Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department on Monday predicted rain and thundershowers at most places in Odisha over the next 48 hours.

On account of a low pressure system formed over northwest Bay of Bengal and a cyclonic circulation associated with it, the low pressure is likely to become well-marked in the next 24 hours, informed met office sources.

As per the special bulletin of the met department, rain and thunderstorm will occur at most places across Odisha.

A lightning and thunderstorm alert has also been issued for 16 districts in Odisha till 6:30 PM today. The districts include Kandhamal, Boudh, Bolangir, Angul, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, Dhenkanal and Rayagada.

Besides, heavy rainfall alert has also been issued for Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundergarh, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, and Jharsuguda, informed director of Regional Meteorological Centre, HR Biswas.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted to occur today in Puri, Khurda, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Deogarh and Dhenkanal districts.

Districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Bargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Sonepur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Boudh will also experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on August 7, the met department predicted.
