Weather alert: Odisha to witness heavy rain in next 24 hours
Bhubaneswar: The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar today predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of North Odisha in the next 24 hours.
Director of the meteorological centre, HR Biswas informed that a low pressure is likely to form over Bay of Bengal in the next 48 hours while several areas in the State will experience light to moderate rainfall in 24 hours.
As per the forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely to occur in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur and Jagatsinghpur districts.
Similarly, heavy rain warning has also been issued for Sundergarh, Sonepur, Puri, Khurda, Angul and Dhenkanal districts. Biswas further informed that the overall rainfall activity is likely to decrease after September 6.
“As the sea condition will remain rough, fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea till September 7,” Biswas added.
Senior met department officials informed that there has been sporadic rainfall in Odisha in the past 24 hours with Khairmal receiving highest rainfall of 46 mm.
So far Odisha has received 11% surplus monsoon rain from June 1, while Bolangir has registered a 22% rainfall deficit.
