Bhubaneswar: The fresh cyclonic circulation formed over the east-central Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a low pressure as a result of which the amount of rainfall will increase from September 20 and 21, informed officials of the Regional Met Department today.

As such, heavy rain accompanied with lightning and thunderstorm is very likely over a few places in the districts of Khurda, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj and Boudh and other parts of coastal and southern Odisha, official sources said.

Duty officer of Bhubaneswar Meteorological Department, Laxmidhar Mahapatra informed, “The amount of rainfall will increase after September 18. A low pressure area is likely to form over Bay of Bengal due to which more rainfall will lash the State from September 20-21.”

Earlier on Sunday, the MeT had predicted that the circulation is likely to turn into a low pressure system over the north-central Bay of Bengal due to which the coastal and southern parts of Odisha will experience heavy rainfall from tomorrow.

The MeT has also advised the fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coast and northwest Bay of Bengal.
