Weather Alert: Heavy Rain To Lash Northern, Coastal Odisha In 24 Hours

Bhubaneswar: The Regional Meteorological Centre on Thursday issued heavy to very heavy rainfall alert for Northern and Coastal districts of Odisha on account of a cyclonic circulation over West Bengal that lies centred over Jharkhand.

“Under the impact of the cyclonic circulation, monsoon is active in Odisha. Several parts of north Odisha will experience light to moderate rainfall while heavy to very heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Sundergarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul and Deogarh districts in next 24 hours,” said director of the regional meteorological centre, HR Biswas.

Biswas further informed that heavy rain is also likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Balasore, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Khurda, Jajpur, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Bargarh, Sonepur and Koraput in the next 24 hours.

Several parts of Odisha experienced heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours. Hemagiri in Sundergarh district recorded highest rainfall of 156mm, followed by 134.6 mm in Jharsuguda and 103 mm in Sambalpur.

As the weather condition will remain rough, fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea for the next 24 hours.

“Though the intensity of rainfall will decrease after 48 hours, light to moderate rainfall will occur at several parts of the State,” Biswas added.
