We will act to refrain locals from being induced by Naxals: DGP

Bhubaneswar: Newly appointed state Director General of Police (DGP) Prakash Mishra said the police would take up measures to refrain the locals from being induced by the extremist groups, intruding from neighbouring states. Taking the charge on Friday Mishra reiterated tackling Naxal menace would be the biggest challenge for the department, which has been a cause for concern for both state and central government for past couple of years.

1977 batch IPS officer Mishra addressing media said the Special Operations Group (SOG) was performing well in the state in curbing Naxal menace and they needed to be motivated. Mishra who focused on co-lateral damages during anti-naxal operations said the time consuming process would need civil policing and developmental activities in the naxal-hit areas.

“If needed the department will go further to outsource experts to tackle cyber crime in the state. We need to change the approach towards handling such crimes,” Mishra said.
