Jajpur: With the onset of summer, Muraripur and Cheliapada villagers under Dharmasala block here are facing severe scarcity of drinking water as taps have gone dry and water levels in the wells have gone down.

Besides, the stand posts are lying defunct adding to the woes of the villagers here.

“Water bodies including the ponds and wells have gone dry and we are facing a lot of problems due to lack of water,” local resident Kokila Rout said.

Around 70 per cent of Dharmasala block is rocky as a result of which the ground water level is very deep. As majority of water sources do not solve drinking water problems, resentment is brewing fast among the villagers.

“There has been no water supply since last year. The tubes are lying jammed and defunt. We would be relieved if the government finds solution to our problem,” local resident Bijay Sethi said.

However, the officials say they are looking into the matter to sort out the issues.

“We are aware about the problem of the people in our area. We are trying to repair the defunct tube wells. We have also set up a control room. If anyone lodges a complaint with our control room, we try to solve the issue as soon as possible,” BDO Dharmasala Madhusudan Das said.
