Warm cloud cover over many places in Odisha lays red carpet for lightning, thunderstorm today!
Sea conditions are supportive for formation of a LOPAR by Monday, However, they are not that favourable for its evolution into a depression
Bhubaneswar: With the warmest clouds seen over most of the places in Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Balangir, Keonjhar, Cuttack, Khurda, including Bhubaneswar, Kandhmal and places like Aska in Ganjam, there is every likelihood of lightning and thunderstorm activities there during the afternoon to evening hours (2 PM – 8 PM) today, especially when the humidity level is around 70 per cent and the wind velocity is around 11km/hour gusting to around 20Km/hour.
As per the cloud data available with Skymet and IMD, cloud covers are seen over many places in Odisha. While the cloud over north interior Odisha extends up to Varanasi in UP, separate patches of cloud are also seen over Khurda, Ganjam and Cuttack districts. The cloud top temperature suggests the clouds being warmest.
Besides, the data analysis further reveals that the humidity level at the places in Odisha is now hovering at around 70 per cent. The wind velocity is sufficient enough to lift the air mass. Given the congenial atmosphere, met data analysis predicts of lightning and thunderstorm activities over the places today in Odisha.
Meanwhile, the sea condition predictions today hosted no change with regard to the formation of Low Pressure Area (LOPAR) in northwest Bay of Bengal on Monday (August 12). The IMD latest bulletin maintains that a LOPAR will be formed over northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood around 12th August.
As the data regarding Sea Surface Temperature (SST) and wind velocity predicted for Monday didn’t show any appreciable change, a LOPAR will evolve on Monday, close to north Odisha and South West Bengal coast.
However, with a predicted wind velocity of around 4 knots on August 12 in the vicinity of LOPAR , the forecast today maintained that as of now signs are not conducive for the LOPAR to develop into a depression.
As per the IMD’s INSAT images, the precipitation amount in Odisha is estimated at around 7mm today. The precipitation index of the IMD shows that the precipitation in the coastal Odisha for today will be around 1mm in 3hours, whereas at places in north interior Odisha, adjoining to Jharkhand will experience around 3-4mm rainfall in 3 hours.
