Brahmagiri: Political rivalry has once again taken a violent turn in village Gambhari under Brahmagiri block in Puri district. Miscreants have torched at least 30 rooms of several houses while rivals hurled bombs at each other. Three platoons of police forces have been posted in the village to control the situation.

The entire village of Gambhari wore the look of a battle-field. Smokes still billowed out of the houses torched by the miscreants. Shops and houses with asbestos roofs too have been badly damaged. A good number of country bombs were still lying scattered in the village. Even there were reports of firing between the political rivals.

The incidents took place on Thursday night. Eight families have lost their everything due to the clashes. Three platoons of police forces were maintaining a strong vigil on the village. All the male members have deserted the village apprehending police action. The district superintendent of police, Anup Sahu, said that the police and the district administration were maintaining a close watch on the village and the situation.

In February last also the village witnessed violent clashes between the political rivals after the panchayat polls. Over 500 bombs were hurled during the clashes which continued for two days apart from firing incidents. Houses were damaged and set ablaze like this time.
