Violence during Puri bandh: 12 more persons arrested by police

Puri: As a part of its investigation into the large scale violence that erupted during the Puri bandh organized to protest the introduction of 'Dadhi Darshan (queue system)'  in Srimandir,  police today arrested 12 more persons thereby taking the total number arrests to 23.

"The arrests were made based on evidences received from the analysis the CCTV footage," said Singhadwar Police Station IIC, Gokul Ranjan Das.

During the bandh, protestors were seen vandalizing the residence of Local MLA, temple office, tourist information centre and the Town Police Station.

"Police are illegally entering the houses of different people and arresting them without any concrete proof. I have come to urge the officials not to resort to such illegal activities," said Priyadarshan Patnaik, convener of Jagannath Sena, which had given the call for Puri bandh on Monday.
