Berhampur: Three policemen including an inspector were injured in an attack by some villagers who wanted to thwart an excise raid in Ganjam district, police said today. The villagers of Landajuali took away the motorcycle of the inspector-in-charge of Gangapur police station Dinabandhu Behera and also damaged the police vehicle when a team had gone to the village for conducting a raid last night.

"We rushed to the village and rescued all the police personnel and arrested four villagers in this connection", SDPO, Bhanjanagar S C Jamadar said. Efforts were on to nab other persons involved in the attack, he said adding the situation in the village was under control. In another incident, nine persons including three women were arrested for illegally manufacturing and trading country liquor at Bhanjanagar. Over 1260 litres of country liquor were seized and a huge quantity of hooch destroyed in the joint raid by police and excise personnel at different places in the town, police said.
