Vijayawada-Ranchi corridor hits roadblock due to ‘Odisha govt apathy’

Malkangiri: The Vijayawada-Ranchi corridor, which is being constructed with an aim to usher in development in the Left Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected districts and improve inter-state connectivity, has hit the roadblock due to the apathetic attitude of the Odisha government, alleged locals. Locals have expressed displeasure over the tardy progress of the project which will connect Ranchi of Jharkhand and Vijayawada of Andhra Pradesh via Odisha.

Though neighbouring Andhra Pradesh government has almost completed the Sileru bridge work, the Odisha government has failed to construct 332-metre connecting road, locals said. “Due to this we have to cross the Sileru River in boats or take circuitous route to reach the other side,” said Prashant Sahu, a local.

The Odisha government’s apathy has led to delay in completion of the project and students and patients are the worst sufferers, stated Satyanarayan Mohanty, another commuter.

On the other hand, the additional collector of Malkangiri, Ayodhyakant Satpathy assured that the corridor project will be completed in six months and the tender process is on.

Around 1219 km out of the 1719-km-long corridor is passing through 12 districts of Odisha.
