Keonjhar: The vigilance sleuths arrived in Keonjhar today to investigate the alleged illegal mining in Uliburu area of the district. The officials have examined the mines documents at the office of Joda deputy director of mines while some officials have reached the office of the DFO for the same. Similarly, a team has visited at Uliburu mining area for spot investigation.
 
The anti corruption department swung into action after  chief minister Naveen Patnaik ordered a vigilance probe into the alleged illegal mining on June 29. Revenue minister SN Patro recommended for such inquiry after receiving the district administration report which confirmed that B K Mohanty Mines went beyond the lease area to excavate iron ore.
 
In the Uliburu area, B K Mohanty Mines allegedly excavated illegally in 35 hectares of which 6 hectare falls in reserve forest. The remaining 29 hectares are owned by the revenue department. The company is also accused of illegally raising and exporting iron ore worth Rs 1,800 crore up to 2009.
