Bhubaneswar: Failing to get a visible assurance from the Centre regarding spurt in fertilizer price in the state, officials of the agriculture department and vigilance sleuths on Saturday conducted joint raids at several fertilizer godowns across the state. According to sources, the teams found grave irregularities in the transaction of as many as 18,000 fertiliser bags.

In an effort to act against illegal stock and black-marketing of fertilisres in state, the teams conducted raids in 40 godowns of 30 places including six godowns in the capital only. The vigilance division of Cuttack, Berhampur and Balasore also conducted similar raids at several places and verified accounts of all the transactions dealing with fertilizer sale. 

The government on Saturday warned stern action would be taken against those found guilty in black-marketing and illegal stock of fertilizers.
