Vigilance arrests Odisha govt official; recovers unaccounted cash worth Rs 7.29L

Koraput: Vigilance sleuths today arrested an SC/ ST development department’s audit officer after recovering unaccounted cash worth Rs 7.29 lakh from his possession near IOC petrol pump in Jeypore.

According to official sources, the officer from Bhubaneswar was returning after conducting audit of Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) in Malkangiri.

The vigilance officials received reliable information regarding carrying of cash collected illegally by the official Artabandhu Rout, Asst. Audit Officer, ST & SC Development Department, Bhubaneswar. He had collected the cash during audit conducted by him in the Office of P.A, ITDA, Malkangiri from November 7-8, an official release stated.

The audit officer was proceeding to Bhubaneswar from Malkangiri via Jeypore when he was intercepted by vigilance officers of Koraput Division in Jeypore.

During search, he was found possessing cash worth Rs 7.29 lakh which he could not satisfactorily account for, official sources stated.

A criminal case has been registered against Rout under Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, criminal misconduct and possession of unaccounted cash, sources said.

Rout will be forwarded to the court. Further investigation is on in the case, added sources.
