Koraput/Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths have arrested an Executive Engineer of NH Division in Jeypore, Harekrushna Panda after unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 3.89 lakh was recovered from his car on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, the officials of the anti-corruption wing intercepted his vehicle near Unit-VIII in Bhubaneswar and seized the cash from his possession.

Simultaneously, another Vigilance team conducted a raid at Panda’s residence in Nayapalli area of Bhubaneswar and seized cash worth Rs 6.18 lakh and gold weighing around 300 grams.

During the search, the officials also recovered documents related to 15 bank accounts and five plots in Bhubaneswar, all in Panda’s name, reports claimed.

“Panda was travelling with the illegal money when he was caught red-handed by the Vigilance team. Later, when he was asked about the source of money seized from him and his house, he failed to give any satisfactory answer,” informed DSP of Bhubaneswar Vigilance, Akshaya Kumar Mishra.

Subsequently, Panda was arrested and forwarded to the court while further investigation is on.
