Valentine’s Day chaos in Bhubaneswar: Bar flouts timings, Odisha Excise officials attacked

The Excise Department conducted a late-night raid at a bar and pub in the Kharavela Nagar area of Odisha’s Bhubaneswar on Valentine’s Day, following allegations that the establishment was operating beyond permitted hours.

According to reports, the bar remained open throughout the night, with youths allegedly intoxicated till late hours. Permission was granted for operations only till 12 midnight. 

However, local residents alleged that rules and regulations were flouted and loud DJ music was played and plans were reportedly in place to continue operations till dawn.

Officials Allegedly Attacked During Raid

Acting on information, the Excise Department carried out a raid on the premises. During the operation, some youths and bar employees allegedly attacked and physically assaulted the officials. An Excise Department employee sustained injuries in the incident.

Police were informed and subsequently reached the spot. A complaint was lodged at the Kharavela Nagar Police Station. Based on the complaint, one person was arrested, while one youth was detained in connection with the incident.

Bar To Be Sealed

The bar was later locked following the raid. Excise Department Superintendent Debashish Patel requested the Excise Department Commissioner to take strict action against the establishment and to seal it.

As per reports, this was not the first such instance, as the bar was allegedly operating beyond permitted hours on previous occasions as well.
