Bhubaneswar: State’s premier educational institution, Utkal University, is again in news but for wrong reasons. A fresh case of assault has been reported where a group of students of 5-year Integrated MBA course allegedly ill-treated a 3rd year student belonging to the same department.

The victim seeking justice registered a complaint with the P.G. Council Chairman on Thursday.

As per the victim, who is a 3rd year student and an inmate of Acharya Harihar Gents’ Hostel was taken to Room no. 31 late on January 09 night and was allegedly stripped in presence of his seniors, juniors and their non-university accomplices. The accused also allegedly shot the entire episode with the help of a mobile phone.

“They forced me to strip and shot video clips on mobile phone. I want the notorious students to be punished,” the complainant said.

Moreover, the victim was threatened of dire consequences if he revealed it to anyone. However, the complainant not withstanding the threatening reported the incident to his hostel superintendent Kabir Mohan Sethi on January 14. The victim on Thursday approached the P.G. Council Chairman Samson Moharana and urged him to intervene in to the matter and render justice.

“It’s a very serious case and we would definitely look into the matter,” Hostel superintendent Kabir Mohan Sethi said.

Later, the P.G. Coucil Chairman ordered for a high level enquiry. This apart, the university security officer would inquire the matter after the superintendent files the fact-finding report.

“It’s a very serious criminal case. So we will follow the process and serve show cause notice to the accused through their concerned department to put forth their defence,” PG Council Chairman Samson Moharana said.
