Bhubaneswar: Former MP and Utkal Bharat party chief Kharavela Swain was allegedly manhandled by some BJD supporters while holding a public meeting at Dungura village under Khaira block in the district on Wednesday.

Swain met Balasore SP Jugal Kishore Banoth and filed a written complaint in this regard today. Swain demanded the SP to take legal action against persons involved in the attack.

Sources said Swain lodged the complaint against two persons identified as Dungura panchayat samiti member Prakash Kumar Lenka and son of a ward member of Dungura village, Manoranjan Kuanr.

Although some others were also involved in the attack, Swain lodged the complaint against the two as others are yet to be identified.

“The local BJD panchayat samiti member and his supporters forcibly snatched our micro phones and asked us to stop the programme. They also threatened us of dire consequences and were in a mood to even fight. Though we tried to talk to them, they remained firm in their demand to stop the meeting. In order to avoid further tension, we left the spot,” alleged Swain.

Swain further informed, “I have lodged a written complaint with the SP against the miscreants and the official has assured an appropriate action into the incident.”

The SP accepted the complaint and stated an investigation will be launched into the matter.

“I have received the complaint and asked the Khaira police Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) to enquire into the incident and take appropriate action,” informed SP Banoth.

However BJD is yet to comment on the matter.

Earlier on October 24, Swain was allegedly attacked and manhandled by BJD activists during a public meeting at Aul in Kendrapara district. Swain had alleged that supporters of BJD leader, Pratap Deb perpetrated the incident. However, Deb refuted the charges.

Meanwhile, former MP and senior leader Baijayant Panda took to twitter condemning the incident.
