Chicago: The three-day convention of the Orissa Society of the Americas (OSA) concluded here on Sunday with the deliberation focusing on ‘Invest Odisha’ and ‘Higher Education opportunities for Odia students’ in the United States.
 
On first day of the convention, Sam Pitroda, adviser to the Prime Minister of India on Public Information Infrastructure & Innovations, shed light on ‘The Odisha Development’, an official release said.
 
The convention, attended by nearly 1400 from different parts of North America as well as Odisha, also delved into various aspects on ‘Invest Odisha’ in the second session in which entrepreneurs from Odisha such as Ayaskanta Mohanty, Satyabrat Dutta and Debasish Patnaik presented their projects.
 
The second panel was devoted to Higher Education Opportunities for Odia Students and it focussed on various opportunities available in the United States. In the session the presenters were- Prof. Richard Taub of University of Chicago, Prof. Usha Menon of the Drexel University, Philadelphia, Prof. Triloki Pandey of the University of California, Santa Cruz, Dr. Sukanta Mahapatra of New Jersey, Prof. Asit Pattnaik of University of Nebraska and Mrutunjay Suar of the KIIT university, Odisha.
 
Sessions of the inaugural day ended with a report on the Buddhist Heritage of Odisha, an international symposium organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Odisha in last February.
 
In the remaining days various symposiums on issues such as legal rights of NRIs and PIOs; women's empowerment; youth entrepreneurship; Health, Body, Mind and Spirit; entrepreneurship; Jagannath culture and tradition among others were organized.
 
Dinanath Pathy, a versatile artist and creative writer from Odisha, and Padma Shri award winner and eminent writer Pratibha Ray were among those present at the event.
 
Similarly actor and political satirist Kuna Tripathy, Bollywood star singer Krisna Beura, and Sniti Mishra of SAREGAMAPA fame, also graced the event. 
 
The next OSA convention has been scheduled to be held at Columbus, Ohio in 2014.
