In a move reminiscent of the Uttar Pradesh model of law enforcement, the local administration in Barbil, Odisha, on Monday demolished the illegal houses of four accused individuals allegedly involved in multiple criminal activities in the region.
According to reports, bulldozers rolled into the Unit-8 area of Barbil, targeting the residences of Mohammad Raja, Sahadat Khan, Abhimanyu Pradhan, and Alok Ram, all of whom are accused of engaging in criminal acts in and around the industrial town.
Officials said the demolition was carried out after verifying that the structures were illegally constructed. The action marks a strong message from the local authorities as they move to curb crime and restore law and order in the area
Demolition Conducted with Heavy Police Presence
According to reports, the houses had been constructed on government land without permission. The demolition was carried out in the presence of three platoons of police to ensure law and order.
Officials, including the SDPO, Magistrate, Tehsildar and staff from the electricity department, were present at the site to oversee the proceedings. The administration reportedly made announcements, giving the residents five minutes to vacate before the demolition began.
Warning Issued Before Action
Authorities stated that prior warnings had been issued to the families before the demolition drive. The local administration and Tehsildar had reportedly cautioned the residents in advance. The houses were subsequently razed to the ground under official supervision, with all necessary precautions taken to avoid disturbance in the area.
Aim to Curb Criminal Activities
Sources indicated that criminal activities had become increasingly frequent in the Barbil region, prompting the authorities to undertake stringent measures. Officials expressed hope that such actions would deter future offences and serve as an example for others. Several cases are pending against the four accused at multiple police stations across the region.
