Keonjhar: After hitting the headlines for illegal mining, Keonjhar is once again in the news for illegal exhaustion of water.

The mines owners here allegedly use the ground water to serve their purpose illegally thus making the exchequer loose crores of money.

As per the official report, a total of 122 units use ground waters among which only 34 units have agreements with the state government to use ground water. The rest do not pay a single paisa towards water tax.

Moreover,  companies which have signed contracts, do not use flow meter.

When contacted, the Divisional head of Keonjhar and Baitarani rivers admitted that there are such cases but he is unable to check this as he has no adequate man power.
