Bhubaneswar: A unified revenue code will be introduced in the State soon by replacing the prevalent age-old revenue laws, informed Revenue Minister Maheswar Mohanty on Saturday.

The State government has constituted a 12-member committee under chairmanship of Board of Revenue to prepare the Odisha Land and Revenue Code.

“Existing seven revenue laws will be merged into a unified revenue code. In the prevalent laws, there are 299 sections whereas the draft unified code will have 107 sections,” the minister stated.

The draft code will be sent to the Law department for examination. After getting the public suggestions, the final draft of the revenue code will be finalised, he stated.

Sources said the unified revenue code will help common man to understand complicated revenue laws.

Besides, the existence of so many revenue Acts and Rules also creates confusion among the field-level revenue functionaries in interpretation of the laws which ultimately leads to delay in disposal of cases.
