Bargarh: An undertrial prisoner, undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital(DHH) in Bargarh, escaped from police custody today morning on the pretext of going to the washroom.

The prisoner, Nakul Majhi aka Tunu, who hails from Barpali area of the district with three criminal cases pending against him, escaped the police custody while he was being treated for self inflicted injuries in the hospital.

As per reports, when Nakul was brought to the District Court yesterday for a trial, he somehow got hold of a sharp weapon & attempted to commit suicide by slitting his throat and wrist. Later, he was taken to the hospital for treatment on Magistrate's order.

However, Nakul deceived the cops at the hospital & escaped on the pretext of going to the toilet.

"A manhunt is already underway to nab the undertrial prisoner. The on duty police personnel who were responsible for this will be taken to task," said the Superintendent of Bargarh Jail, Nilima Kulu.
