Boudh: An undertrial prisoner lodged at Boudh Sub Jail died while undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital here today.

The prisoner has been identified as Gopal Biswas of North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal.

According to reports, Biswas suddenly fell sick yesterday late night and was rushed to the DHH. However, he died while undergoing treatment today.

“At around 1.45 am, he complained of chest burn following which we called upon a jail pharmacist. After primary treatment we admitted him to the hospital,” informed Superintendent of the sub-jail, Kulamani Behera.

Biswas was serving jail term since June 5 after he was convicted guilty in connection with smuggling of ganja.

Police have started investigation into the incident.

Earlier on Sunday, an undertrial prisoner was killed after a murder convict allegedly hit him with a brick in Balasore district jail hospital.
