Rourkela: An under trial prisoner lodged at the Special Jail in Rourkela lost his life after he was allegedly administered a wrong injection by the jail doctor on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Joseph Tirkey. Joseph's wife, Parbati Tirkey alleged that her husband was perfectly healthy and the jail authorities killed him with a wrong injection.

“My husband never complained me of any health issues before. Only the jail authorities can tell what made them administer that injection. I want justice,” Parbati said.

As per reports, Joseph was lodged in jail in connection with a murder case under the Bramhani Tarang police limits in Sundargarh district. He complained of an illness last night after which the jail doctor administered an injection to him.

However, after the treatment, Joseph’s condition deteriorated following which the jail authorities admitted him to the Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) where he died while undergoing treatment.

Commenting on the matter, Kuanr Ekka, the Asst. Jailor of Rourkela Special Jail said, “Joseph complained of vomiting and chest pain last night. Our jail doctor checked him and administered an injection. However, as his condition worsened, we immediately admitted him to the RGH.”

“I am not a doctor, so I can’t comment on the efficacy of the injection. The jail doctor can shed more light on it,” he added.

Aarati Parida, a social worker said, “We want a complete investigation into the matter. If Joseph had problems, why wasn’t he admitted to the hospital immediately?”

A probe has been initiated after an FIR was lodged at the Raghunathpali Police Station.
