Under-trial prisoner dies in Jharsuguda sub-jail

Jharsuguda: An under-trial prisoner lodged in the city sub-jail, died at the district headquarters hospital here on Monday.

The inmate identified as Binod Kishan, a native of Mudkadhuda village in the district was in the jail since 2014 on charges of murdering his wife over dowry.

Sub-jail superintendant Urmila Minj said Kishan complained of uneasiness in the evening and was later admitted to the DHH. However, he was declared dead.

“He attended the evening prayer and spoke to me there. He was quite alright but nearly 15 minutes later after I came to office, jail staff informed me that he was feeling unwell. We immediately shifted him to the DHH but the doctors could not save him,” Minz said.

The exact reason behind his death is yet to be ascertained and it will be known only after after his post-mortem reports.
