Unauthorized eco-resort busted in Koraput, eviction drive underway

The district administration has initiated a major eviction operation against an alleged illegal eco-retreat functioning at Talamali in the Koraput district. 

Acting on the instructions of the Koraput District Collector, officials led by the Sub-Collector, along with police forces, began the eviction drive on Wednesday. The action comes after allegations surfaced that private operators had set up unauthorised tourism facilities atop the Talamali hill range.

Despite the ongoing eviction, no action has yet been taken against the organisation accused of constructing and running the illegal retreat—Go-Koraput. Officials say the matter is under examination, and appropriate steps will be decided once the eviction process is completed.

According to sources, two entities—Go-Koraput and KHC—had allegedly set up temporary eco-retreat facilities without obtaining mandatory permissions from the district or forest authorities. The groups were reportedly operating hotels, restaurants, and luxury winter-proof camps, charging tourists high rates in violation of regulations.

The unauthorised structures had been drawing attention for some time, with locals and environmental observers raising concerns over ecological impact and commercial exploitation of the hilltop.

Koraput Sub-Collector Premlal Hial confirmed the initiation of the eviction activity.

“We have started the eviction process from yesterday. It will take us a few days to completely evict the place. The next step will be taken after the eviction process is completed,” he said.

The district administration is expected to review the land status and decide the future use of the site once the clearance is completed.
