Keonjhar: Three days after arresting BK Mohanty, the original lease holder of Uliburu iron ore mines, vigilance sleuths on Thursday conducted raid on main accused Deepak Gupta’s Deepak Steel & Power’s sponge iron plant at Rugudi in Keonjhar district, about 100 kms from here.

According to reports reaching here, the officials are vetting the plant’s records relating to operational and financial transactions. They have also seized some ‘incriminating’ documents of the plant, sources said.

Meanwhile, the Steel and Mines department has cancelled all the licenses of Deepak Steel and Power following official reports confirming the involvement of Gupta in the Rs 1800 crore mining irregularities in Joda circle of the district.

On Tuesday, a special vigilance court here rejected the bail application of Mohanty, who was arrested by vigilance sleuths the previous day from Cuttack in connection with multi-crore mining scam.
 
Mohanty was sent to 14-day judicial custody following the bail denial.
 
The investigating officials on Monday had raided at 10 different places in Bhubaneswar, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts and reportedly seized some incriminating documents related to mines from Mohanty’s possession.
 
Besides, the team had also launched search operations simultaneously at the residences of some government officials and others involved in the scam in different places in Bhubaneswar, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Rourkela.
