Bhubaneswar: Odisha government on Saturday suspended two more officials on charges of involvement in the Uliburu mining scam. The suspended officials are Manas Mohanty, Deputy director of Mines department and Suresh Sahu, Mining Officer, Baripada circle.

"On the basis of evidence we are taking action against Mohanty and Sahu who were working in the Joda circle during 2004 to 2009, when the loot of mineral resources happened," said Steel and Mines minister Rajanikant Singh.

Earlier, two days back, the state government had suspended two inspectors of mines - Subash Chandra Barik and Ramesh Chandra Panda - for dereliction in duty. Notably, both Barik and Panda were on duty at that time in the Joda circle.

Besides, Odisha government had decided to take possession of the B K Mohanty iron ore mines at Uliburu after it was established prima facie that the miner had illegally raised minerals beyond its permitted area without any lawful authority.

The Director of Mines was also asked to recover the pending dues and take necessary action against the mine lessee as per the law.
